A LITTLE ADVICE TO HELP KEEP THE 'BEARDRUFF' AT BAY

It can be a tricky enough task when trying to grow out a full beard, after you've survived the dreaded itch stage you'll likely discover at some point flaking pieces of dead/old skin which inevitably cause beard dandruff. Not only is this rather unsightly but left untreated the condition will only get worse over time. So lets discuss a few pointers to help reduce if not eliminate that facial snow storm that I like to call 'Beardruff'.

So what causes your facial hair dandruff to begin with? It is believed that a combination of the yeast that lives in your skin and cold/cooler temperatures are the main factors here. The yeast that naturally forms within human skin hides from the suns ultraviolet rays protected by your beard. Without your facial hair, the ultraviolet light simply slows the yeasts growth which in turn stops the skin from flaking. When you have a beard the facial hair protects and thrives the yeast which can worsen as you continue to grow out your beard-mane.

Washing your beard with a anti-dandruff shampoo wont be the solution on a long term basis. With most over the counter shampoos they often contain a whole host of harsh chemicals and ingredients that can damage your facial hair causing irritation to the skin on your face as these products are primarily not designed to be used on your beard but rather the the hair on your head and scalp.

The better solution would be to purchase a shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for beards. These products are carefully created with a more natural balance of ingredients specifically designed to support your facial hairs well being and can even aid in your facial hairs growth. It's also important to not over wash your beard as facial hair contains natural oils that are key to your beards health. Over washing will in turn clear out these essential oils from your facial forests which could impact your beards strength and stump its growth rate. If you're not already doing so then introduce a high quality beard oil/balm into your daily routine. This will help the skin below the beard stay well hydrated and play a huge role in maintaining your beards long term health whilst helping reduce the amount of dandruff the skin produces.

Keeping that facial forest tamed and tidy will also help keep those beardy flakes at bay. By simply brushing or combing any knots and tangles that may group in your beard with a little added help from a good beard oil/balm will prove helpful during your beard growing journey.
