4 MYTHS AND FACTS ABOUT THE VIKINGS

In keeping with the Viking theme I wanted to take a blog post and dedicate it solely to the Vikings, as today we discuss 4 rather incredible Viking facts...

HAND ME MY TRUSTY VIKING SWORD!

A Vikings most treasured possession was often his trusty sword. They were inherited through generations of the family's blood line before him, and the beholder would cherish his sword dearly, defeating his foes with one sharp blow at a time.

HAPPY THURSDAY EVERYBODY!

Thursday has become a commonly used word, being it almost the weekend. But did you know that Thursday was actually named after the Norse God of thunder, Thor? I too, didn't believe this fact to actually be truth. But after a little further investigation it appears to be very much true! Thursday literally means ''Thor's-Day'' in old English. Well, they do say we learn something new everyday after all.

HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY MISTER VIKING!

On average a Viking would usually live to be around his early forties. Which to us may seem a little premature, but we're talking around 1066! Taking into consideration that a Vikings life would endure a higher level of blood, gore and mutilating violence than most, I'd have to say that's not a bad run at life at all!

LIKE VIKING FATHER, LIKE VIKING SON!

In Viking times youngsters would not be considered children from around the age of twelve, but instead were viewed as adults. The young males were trained to follow in their father's bloodied footsteps as they quickly learned the ropes in order to make a fine young Viking. The first born females were often believed to have been left and abandoned through disappointment of the father who so desperately desired a boy, so that they could carry on the Viking traditions as they grow into young strong warriors.
